Samsung Publishes Galaxy S2 Ice Cream Sandwich Source Code

Samsung Ice Cream Sandwich Source Code

Your carrier may not have released the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for your Galaxy S2 yet, but Samsung has already released the ICS source code. If you are a developer and/or know what you're doing, you can get it here direct from Samsung.  On a personal note, I have given up waiting for the Ice Cream Sandwich update. From what you lovely readers have told me, it doesn't sound like a very big change. I have therefore gone ahead and flashed a Lite'ning ROM with Ice Cream Sandwich, and so far, I'm loving it. May do a mini video review shortly to show you what you're all missing, and what you should go and get!

Galaxy S2 & Ice Cream Sandwich - Hands On

I haven't been able to update yet, but thanks to Aaron at The Verge, here is a quick hands on video review of Ice Cream Sandwich on the Samsung Galaxy S2. So far, the user experience doesn't look very different at all. Maybe a bit of an anticlimax. Will have to wait and see till I have it in my own hands though.

How Has The Galaxy S2 Ice Cream Sandwich Update Been For You?

Please tell us in the comments how you're finding Ice Cream Sandwich.

@ivanviragine: at first its slow, as it's caching and syncing.. battery sucks up, but it's getting better now...

@ck_memphis: TouchWiz spoils the entire ICS update. Some issues, but it should get better. Battery life seems better....

@lazzez: I upgrade it yesterday and it works fine. I can't see so many differences yet any way. Some small improvments.

@NineMilliNZ: #ICS looks real nice. Faceunlock is prety cool bt it doesnt wrk without good light. A little buggy tho. Defo worth the update!

@Donut200: And btw ICS looks great in my galaxy s2. I love new animations and task manager.

What about you?

ICS for Galaxy S2 Has Finally Arrived - UPDATED - Poland, Hungary, Sweden, Korea, Finland, Denmark

ICS Galaxy S2
Samsung has finally announced the arrival of Ice Cream Sandwich for the Galaxy S2.  The update will be live for many of you, while others including myself may still need to wait a little bit longer for our carriers to sort themselves out. From what we've seen on Sammy's sites, the Galaxy S2 update should be quite simple. Samsung Kies will update your phone just as it has done for every other firmware update.  Samsung does recommend that if you have a pattern lock on your phone, you turn it off before updating, and the whole process shouldn't take more than half an hour. This does of course depend slightly on the computer you're using. Oh, you also need to make sure you have at least 60 MB of free space on your phone!
Have you been able to update?
UPDATE: According to Pocket-Lint ICS will be available in the UK from the week commencing 19th of March.... back to Madge and the clocks below it is then.
UPDATE: Here is the press release Samsung sent Engadget.
UPDATE: Some readers in Finland and Denmark have been able to upgrade over the air, without the use of Kies. (Menu > Settings > About phone > Software update > Update)

Samsung Says Galaxy S2 ICS Update Announcement Tweet Coming Soon - Update Your Kies

time goes by so slowly madonna
Time goes by so slowly for those of us waiting on the Galaxy S2 Ice Cream Sandwich update.  However, approximately 1 hour ago Samsung advised it's followers on Twitter to ensure their Kies software is up to date. Why? Because the ICS update for the Galaxy S2 will be announced soon via Twitter! Finally, word from the horse's mouth. And this time it is not from a regional Samsung office but from HQ. The message was even in Korean. If that doesn't make you a believer I don't know what will.  We will be hanging on to every stroke of Samsung's keyboard.
